Darren T. Benson, CPADarren has worked in all aspects of the administration process including financial accounting, tax and consulting. Darren began his hedge fund career in 1997 with a fund administration company. In 2003, Darren was promoted to Managing Director where he was instrumental in the rapid growth of the company. Key responsibilities included administration and consulting work for a broad range of the company’s clients, including domestic and offshore hedge funds, private equity funds, and registered investment companies (RIC funds). During his time as Managing Director, he was instrumental in developing proprietary hedge fund software and implementing and overseeing the company’s internal controls process. In 2006, Darren was promoted to President of the company. As President, he oversaw the operations of the company and helped guide it through a period of tremendous growth in revenue and assets under administration. He also continued to consult with many current and potential clients on various accounting and structural issues and worked directly with a major US Institutional client with several of their large registered and unregistered hedge fund products. Darren received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accounting degrees from Utah State University in 1995 and 1996, respectively. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Jared L. Broadbent, CPAJared has extensive experience in hedge fund operations, back office, and external financial reporting. Jared began his hedge fund career in 2001 with KPMG LLP, an international accounting and professional services firm. He specialized in the alternative investments practice and was the lead audit manager performing annual financial statement audits for over eighty hedge funds, fund of hedge funds, and registered investment companies. During his tenure, he contributed in growing the local alternative investments practice by nearly five-fold in terms of revenues and assets under management. While at KPMG, he also performed audit, review and consulting engagements for a variety of companies, both publicly and privately held, in the consumer products, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, financial, and technology sectors. In 2006, Jared joined NightWatch Capital, a registered investment adviser, where he served as controller over the company’s various hedge funds, managed accounts, and related management companies. His duties included daily reconciliation of trading activities, monthly financial statement preparation and NAV calculations, interaction with fund investors, and annual audit and tax preparation and liaison. He also administered the company’s SEC compliance program including testing and documentation. He also helped to develop key financial processes and controls over all aspects of NightWatch’s operations including selection and implementation of new financial software. Jared earned his Masters of Professional Accountancy from Brigham Young University, magna cum laude, in 2001 and his BS in Accounting in 2000. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and received the highest score in the state of Utah for the 2001 CPA exam session.
Samuel M. Seaman, CPASam has extensive experience in taxation, regulatory, and structural issues related to investment entities. In 1999, Sam began his hedge fund career in San Francisco with Arthur Andersen and later took a position with Deloitte & Touche. Besides earning sufficient audit hours to qualify as a California CPA, he worked in the tax departments at Andersen and Deloitte specializing in investment and family partnerships. Working with partnerships exposed Sam to a broad range of taxable entities and their peculiar tax structures. In 2003, Sam accepted a position with a fund administration company servicing hedge funds, fund of hedge funds, and private equity funds. He was hired to create a tax, SEC compliance, and AML department and later became the CFO of the company. Besides working as CFO and Tax Director, he worked with the president and CEO of the company to consult with current and potential clients on tax, book, and legal matters. He also started a small personal and estate income tax service while working for the company. Sam earned his Masters of Accountancy from Southern Utah University, magna cum laude, in 1999. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). |
